The Village Halloween Parade
No Halloween in New York City is complete without experiencing the legendary Village Halloween Parade—the world’s largest and wildest Halloween event right in Greenwich Village!
When to Show Up: Saturday night, October 31, 2026 at 7:00 PM!
The Route: The parade starts down at 6th Avenue and Canal Street and marches all the way up 6th Avenue, wrapping up around 15th Street and 6th Avenue (just minutes from Gramercy!).
How to Experience It:
Watch from the Sidewalk: Stand along 6th Avenue to marvel at thousands of outrageous costumes, giant puppet floats, marching bands, and dancers.
March in the Parade: Want to actually be in the parade? Grab a costume and march! Anyone in a costume is welcome to join the public lineup at 6th Ave and Canal Street before kickoff.
Hostel Transit Tip: Super easy walk from Gramercy! Just stroll west across 14th Street or 6th Avenue to catch the parade action right at the finish line.
Brownstones walk
Beyond the wild parties, one of the best free ways to soak in NYC’s Halloween vibe is simply walking through the city's historic brownstone neighborhoods. During late October, local residents transform their classic stoops into real-life movie sets with giant skeletons, glowing jack-o'-lanterns, and cascading spiderwebs. Here are my top cozy neighborhoods to explore:
Greenwich Village & West Village
10 Grove Street: One of the most picturesque brick and brownstone blocks in the city.
Bank, Charles & Perry Streets: along these narrow and historic corridors you’ll find yourself admiring stoop displays, iron railings, and the gothic-style cobweb setups.
Upper West Side
West 81st & West 82nd Streets: Located right off Central Park, these blocks feature stately multi-story brownstones turned into full-blown Halloween haunted houses with giant spiders, skeletons, and floating ghosts.
West 87th & West 94th Streets: Quieter residential stretches that showcase classic late-Victorian and Renaissance Revival architecture framed by golden autumn foliage.
Upper East Side
East 62nd Street (between Lexington & 3rd Ave): A scenic residential block showcasing historic brick and brownstone facades.
East 64th & East 67th Streets (between Fifth & Madison Ave): Located steps from Central Park, these ultra-prestigious blocks feature grand townhomes and classic stone stoops decorated for fall.
East 74th & East 77th Streets: Walk along these leafy corridors between 2nd, 3rd, and Madison Avenues for a classic, peaceful neighborhood atmosphere.
Park Slope, Brooklyn
Montgomery Place & Prospect Park West: These are easily some of the prettiest blocks in New York. The stunning historic brownstones here go all-out with elaborate, full-block Halloween setups that feel incredibly festive.
8th & 9th Avenues (The Numbered Streets): Take a cozy autumn walk down 2nd through 8th Streets. Every stoop is lined with glowing jack-o'-lanterns, giant skeletons, and spooky cobwebs framed by gorgeous fall leaves.
Stone Street Halloween Bar Fest
Stone Street is one of NYC’s oldest cobblestone alleys, and on Halloween day from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the whole street turns into a massive, open-air Halloween block party and bar crawl. Grab a friend, or don’t! You’re bound to make new friends at this unforgettable day of bar hopping, but definitely don’t forget your costume!
How It Works: Check in between 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM to grab your wristband. Your ticket grants you no-cover access and exclusive drink specials across a whole squad of awesome participating spots (like Stone Street Tavern, Beckett’s, Route 66, Havana Social, Brandy's, The Malt House, and more!).
Outdoor Games & Contests: The street fills up with lawn games like giant Jenga, cornhole, and beer pong! Feel competitive? Test your stamina against fellow partygoers in the classic Pumpkin Holding Contest, or swing by the DIY candy bag bar for a sweet treat. 🍭
Drinks, Music & Photos: Enjoy live DJs, themed cocktail specials, a dedicated Shot Ski Station, and a Pickle Back Bar. Plus, there are spooky photo booths set up everywhere to document your killer costume for Instagram.
